Jay was born October 8, in Goliad, Texas and raised in the town of Boling, Texas. Jay grew up in a large family, four sisters and three brothers. He started singing for his family at the age of 7 and has been singing ever since! At the age of 13 he had his own band.
Jay attended Boling High School and graduated in 1967. He immediately went into the Army after high school. During his stint in the US Army, he sang for dignitaries and had a standing weekend ‘gig’ at one of the finest hotels in Germany. Upon returning stateside, he began playing and singing music around the Houston area in 1970.
Jay loves singing, laughing and being around people. “Singing has been a way of life for me. No matter what was happening in the world, I was always accepted for my singing”, says Jay. ”I could always express myself with the songs that I wrote and sang. I thank God for giving me the ability to sing”.
Jay was on the Nashville music show “You Can Be a Star”, hosted by Jim Ed Brown, the “Johnny High Country Music Review”, the “Louisiana Hayride” and several other venues.
In April 2010, Jay, and his wife Nina, acquired the Liberty Opry in Liberty, Texas, which has been a great venue for all. There, he has the honor and privilege of singing every weekend with the fabulous Liberty Opry Band.
“Three of the greatest gifts in my life have been my wife, Nina, my grand-daughter, Alleigh, and being able to be a part of the Liberty Opry. I have found that through the doors of the Opry walk the finest audiences and friends that one man could be blessed with”!
