Andy, born October 22, 1980, grew up in Houston and began playing trumpet when he was 12 years old. With no school bands to play in, due to being home schooled, Andy played in numerous community bands, playing at patriotic events, church bazaars, public concerts, etc. The “jumpstart” of his musical career is owed to those bands; which bent the rules to allow his brother and him to play with them – even though they were just “kids”. Andy entered college at the age of 17 and also began playing professionally at that time. The first half of his professional career was spent mainly in the Big Band Jazz genre, where he played with numerous swing bands and dance bands across southern Texas, before forming his own swing band – Third Coast Swing – in 2005.
Andy currently plays with the Quail Valley Praise Band and Phoenix Rhythm and Horns (a pops brass group). He also works freelance jobs in and around Houston and all over Texas with big bands, jazz groups, rock bands, brass quintets, the Fort Bend Symphony, musical theaters, various churches and of course, the Liberty Opry !
Andy is self-employed as a handy-man in Sugar Land, which keeps him very busy when he is not playing music.
Andy and Carmen married in 2003 and have four children; Jonathan, Rosa, Liesl and Ava.
Andy says that he is honored to be a part of the Liberty Opry Band. We don’t know how he finds the time to play with us, but we’re sure glad he does…and we are honored to have him!
